Description
The Phase 5 Fire Damper Project was the last and largest phase of the Fire Damper upgrades to the North wing of the hospital. This project was engineered in a horizontal method by the means of two main shafts from the 6th floor to the 3rd floor to serve individual ductwork loops on each floor in the North wing.

The previous design was a vertical method that had 80 small vertical risers with approximately 250 fire dampers located throughout these risers at each floor. This method was very costly to St. Michael Hospital to inspect annually and maintain. The new design has not only increased the safety for the hospital but has also allowed them have more freedom if they were to remodel the floors.
